This course is designed for those involved in the rehabilitation of patients with knee injuries and knee pain; however, any medical professional involved in the treatment of patients with knee problems will benefit from this course and are welcome to attend. 

Continuing Education Credits: Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be awarded 8 contact hours. This course is approved for 8 contact hours by the AAPA, NATA BOC, and the Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Ohio Chapters of the APTA. (Attendance at the entire event and submission of an evaluation are required to obtain contact hours.)

 

 

Course Description

This course will provide attendees with useful clinical information for the examination and treatment of patients with any knee problem. The course begins with topics pertaining to the overall examination and treatment principles that can be applied to patients with any type of knee pain or injury. The afternoon sessions are specific to management of patients with ACL injuries and multiple ligament injuries, patellofemoral instability, and osteoarthritis. We will discuss the importance of a goal-directed pre- and post-operative rehabilitation program for total knee arthroplasty as well as a program to help patients avoid or delay the need for a total knee replacement.

Course Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
  • Identify the key components of knee symmetry and describe how they relate to knee function

  • Interpret strength, range of motion, and stability testing measures and utilize these results to formulate an appropriate rehabilitation protocol/ return-to-sport progression

  • Identify the important rehabilitation considerations for patients with ACL injuries to minimize recovery time and incidence of complications

  • Interpret examination and diagnostic imaging findings as they relate to patellofemoral instability

  • Design a rehabilitation program to minimize pain and improve function in patients with osteoarthritis
  • Describe the mechanism of injury for ACL tears
  • Describe the rehabilitation considerations for patients with multiple ligament injuries
